The most personal lake cabin gift is one that shows the actual lake outside the door. Our lake map designs put the shoreline and depth contours of a specific Upper Peninsula lake on mugs, prints, shirts and more, so a housewarming present, a host thank-you or an opening-weekend surprise belongs to that place and nowhere else.
Below are ideas sorted by occasion and by how the gift will be used at the cabin.
Gifts by occasion
Housewarming for a new lake house
New owners often have bare walls and a kitchen stocked with mismatched hand-me-downs. A canvas print or poster of their lake fills the first wall with something that means something. A pair of mugs with the same design is a lighter option that still gets used every day.
Thank-you for a weekend host
If friends invite you up for a weekend, bring something that stays behind after the leftovers are gone. A mug for each guest room, or a set of postcards with the lake on the front, is easy to pack and easy to leave on the counter.
Opening weekend
The first weekend of the season is when the dock goes in and the cabin wakes up. Stickers for the cooler, kayak or boat box, and a new hoodie for cold mornings, fit the mood. For families who share a cabin, matching shirts make a good group photo.
Closing up for the year
When the cabin shuts down for winter, a poster for the house back home keeps the lake in view until spring.

Finding the cabin’s lake
Start from the county. Cabin country in the western Upper Peninsula is well covered: Gogebic County has the largest list on the site, and Iron County and Houghton County have dozens more. Farther east, Luce County and Schoolcraft County have plenty of small lakes too.
If the lake has a common name, use the county to tell them apart. There are two Bass Lakes in our data with similar recorded depths: Bass Lake in Marquette County at 78 feet and Bass Lake in Luce County at 74 feet. Each has its own design.
Some lakes sit across a county line. Beatons Lake is listed in both Gogebic and Ontonagon counties in our data, so you will find it from either county page.
Picking a design for a cabin
Cabins tend to be wood-heavy and warm-toned. The dark contour version often sits well against pine paneling, while the light version suits painted walls and white kitchens. The shaded depth map has the most visual weight, so it works as the one large piece in a room.
For a lake with a lot of underwater structure the design will be busier. Emeline Lake in Gogebic County has 35 contour lines in our data; a smaller lake like Holly Lake has 8. Both look good, just differently. You can see each design on its lake page before choosing. The how the maps are made page explains where the lines come from.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good housewarming gift for a new lake cabin?
A poster or canvas print of the lake the cabin sits on gives the new owners something personal for an empty wall. Mugs or postcards are smaller options.
Can I get a set of mugs for the cabin?
Yes. Each lake has mugs in its designs, and you can order as many as you need. Price and shipping are shown at checkout.
The cabin is on a small lake. Will it be on the site?
The site covers more than 450 Upper Peninsula lakes, many of them small. Check the county page for the area where the cabin is.
Are the maps accurate enough to use on the water?
No. They are decorative designs drawn from survey data and are not meant for navigation or judging depth.
